Famous notables from X Factor winner Tate Stevens to Dale Carnegie, author of “How to Win Friends and Influence People” have called Belton, Missouri home over the years.
The town of just under 25,000 sits off Missouri 58 and U.S. Interstate 49, Belton’s roots start back to just after the Civil War, in 1871.
George Scott and William Colbern platted 80 acres of land in December of 1871 and named for Capt. Marcus Lindsey Belt, a friend of Scott’s who helped survey the land. Belton was formally incorporated in 1872.
As railroads played such a vital part in the early settling of Cass County, Belton is home to the Belton-Grandview-Kansas City Railroad Company, where visitors today can still ride the 1920s area passenger coach locomotive.
Twenty miles south of Kansas City, the Belton School District currently carries more than 4,800 students at an early childhood center, four elementary schools, a K-6 STEAM Academy, an upper elementary, middle school/freshman center and Belton High School. The Belton School District is Accredited with Distinction by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Belton’s Parks and Recreation Department manages nine city parks as well as a range of youth and adult recreational programs.
The Village of Loch Lloyd is tucked into the northwest corner of the city as its own entity.
