At Shelly’s house, the college allegiances are split between University of Missouri and Kansas University. And she is just fine with that.
Shelly and her husband Rob (a structural engineer) have two children studying on opposite sides of the state line. Kyle is at Kansas University in pre-medical studies and a Lexi is at Missouri playing softball. She said at their house, Mizzou football and Jayhawk basketball are kings.
Both kids graduated locally from Lee’s Summit North High School and Shelly said that local educational piece has been a major selling point since she got into real estate. The couple moved to Lee’s Summit in 1994, mainly due to the school system, she said.
Shelly works new construction, resale and relocations for the Bill McCoy team and said massive company growth from Cerner, Garmin, Amazon and Hallmark have made the relocation to Kansas City a thriving and competitive market.
It’s competition she’s ready for, harkening back to what her mom told her: “Outwork everyone, do more than is expected and treat others like you want to be treated.”
With the Bill McCoy team since 2009, Shelly started on her own in real estate in 2007 and started her career as a school teacher in the Independence School District.
Shelly said she and her husband love to travel to the islands, but more likely travel these days will be following along with the Mizzou softball team as it hits different stops in the Southeast Conference.
When she’s not enjoying Mexican fare, Shelly said she loves a good steak from Capitol Grille, J. Gilberts or Summit Grill.
