Located just 23 miles east of Kansas City, Grain Valley’s population has been booming since the 1970s.
Doubling from 1970 to 1980, Grain Valley has grown from 1,327 at that time to 13,236, and by factors over 171 percent and 149 percent from 1990 to 2000 to 2010. That rapid growth earned the city a spot on the Kansas City Business Journal’s list of projected fastest growing cities from 2014-2019.
Located north and south of Interstate 70, with Blue Springs just west and Oak Grove just east, Grain Valley’s story starts in 1878 when the first plat was filed. The city incorporated as a fourth-class entity in 1945.
History holds well for the Bank of Grain Valley, established in 1905 and still located in its original building. Nationally, and more recently, OOIDA (Owner-Operator Independent Driver’s Association) opened its national headquarters in 1973.
As a fourth-class city, Grain Valley is governed by a mayor and board of aldermen. A city Park Board oversees the planning, maintenance and improvements of the parks system.
Grain Valley School District has over 4,200 students with four elementary schools, two junior highs and Grain Valley High School in the system. Grain Valley High has been ranked in the top 5 percent of high schools in the United States. In 2016, voters approved a $9.5 million bond issue for classroom renovations, additions, parking, athletic upgrades and other needs.

Born from a military town, once the home of the 33rd President of the United States, Harry S Truman, to its present-day spot as a hub of activity at U.S. 71/I-49 and Missouri 150 highways, Grandview, Missouri is a vital sector in the thriving and ever-developing area of southwestern Jackson County.
The redevelopment of the storied Truman’s Marketplace, coupled with new developments such as the Gateway Sports Village and the recent opening of the Grandview Amphitheater, showcase the town’s continued focus on economic development and jobs.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recently opened a new facility in Grandview, becoming the largest employer in the city. And the military, through the old Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base, left a lasting legacy of military families and population in Grandview, a number that exceeded 25,000 as of July 2014.
From railroads to runways to highways and neighborhoods, Grandview has grown into a suburban Kansas City area rich with parks and recreation opportunities and a growing historic downtown area that is now part of the Missouri Main Street Connection.
Grandview’s C-4 School District also boasts some of the top rankings in Missouri. Comprised of four elementary schools, a kindergarten through eighth grade facility in Martin City, Grandview Middle and Grandview High School, the district houses more than 4,000 students. With the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Grandview C-4 has received Accredited with Distinction status.

Nestled between Jackson and Cass counties, Greenwood offers many of the conveniences of a large city while seemingly in a rural area of Jackson County.
Greenwood stretches from Missouri 150 just west of Missouri 291 Highway, east and south to the Cass County line near Lake Winnebago.
Although serviced by its own police department, Greenwood utilizes the Lee’s Summit Fire Department, Lee’s Summit Water Utilities and is part of the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District. Greenwood Elementary School is located inside the city limits.
In 1867, R.W. Price, Frank Brooks, Alfred Hanscomb and the Rev. S.B. Clark filed the city name with the courts. It has been written that Clark admired the elegant and towering elm trees in the area, thus naming the city Greenwood in its honor. Elms dot the landscape to this day.
Greenwood’s population now counts over 5,000 residents in the vibrant, quaint community.
The city’s Parks and Recreation Department and Parks Board oversees five community parks and numerous fields that offer community recreational opportunities in baseball, soccer, playgrounds, shelters, basketball, horseshoes, volleyball and various open-play fields.
Greenwood is governed by a traditional Mayor-Board of Aldermen system. The city will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2017.
